Made in Canterbury: Our story

Inspired by the pilgrims in Geoffrey Chaucer's infamous Canterbury Tales, we are the Canterbury Trails Free Walking Tour Company. Now we don't like to blow our own horn, but we like to think that we are the very best way to learn about the history of the world famous city of Canterbury (and with our price tag, we certainly think we are the best value for money). So how did we get started and what do we offer?

The trails team

The whole workforce is made up of young people and students who know Canterbury off by heart. We were born out of a desire to contribute to the city and to earn a little pocket money along the way. These aren't pretentious paid tours, they're fun and lively experiences with real locals, who know all the secrets that the city has to offer. Plus a few hidden gems that other tours won't take you to! There's really not much more to add - we are simply committed citizens of Canterbury who want to show off everything our city can offer to tourists.

What's on offer?

Canterbury is a UNESCO World Heritage city and we want to provide holidaymakers, day-trippers, students and locals with all of the history they need to better understand our beautiful city. We want our free walking tours to be the first stop on any trip to Canterbury. Plus we're offering tips on where to eat and drink and handing out exclusive free giveaways to all those who join us on one of our jaunts around the city.

A love for our city 

What's the catch? Well, there isn't really one. We do this because of a love for our city and we want to give a little something back. Like any other free tour around the globe, we accept tips from our wonderful attendees but this really is secondary to giving you a complete overview of all of the ancient and modern history our city has to offer.
